Movement, Poetry and Ritual Theater for Healing

Medicine Dance was born of a question by Gabrielle:
"Do you have a writing pill?"

Medicine dance is different from other dance forms in that its intention is to prepare the mind for casting into the delightful field of mind play that writers and poets are called to.

Using the 5RhythmsTM practice as a foundation, we explore the word dance and then present our work in a sacred, ritual theater circle.

"I remember the moment
Jewel burst into my vision.
Liquid motion, raw passion,
revolutionary leaps of consciousness held together in faded leotard.
The bones of her story hung in space
like skinny revelations whispered in quivering muscles.
I witnessed her transformation from a girl to a woman,
from a lover to mother,
from student to teacher,
from an abused child to a wounded healer
and all the while I could not separate her feet from her mouth,
her pain from her beauty,
her freckles from her wisdom.
In her surrender,
I have seen God with my own ears."

Gabrielle Roth, author
"Maps to Ecstasy"
and
"Sweat Your Prayers"

Medicine Dance
for temporary relief of anxiety, irritability and depression

daily prescription
take a shot of shakti
with a general de cloud gesturent
then a rhythm remedy
a hot tempo tonic
followed by a chaos compress
shake vigorously for 3 minutes
3x daily or as needed
if indicated take two little blue pills
slip on the skin of sadness
and say why or good-bye one last time
if symptoms persist
apply fishnets and cowboy boots
take a double dose of drum
and a heaping spoonful of sass
keep within reach of children
there are those people that join the bunny line
and there are those that don't
all I ever wanted was to dance
The Dance
the dance that's bigger than the body
to be the music Messiahs muse
the hallelujah chorus come home to roost
to boost, jump me out of my cake
have all the kingdoms gates
flung open at once
This is my medicine
This is my medicine dance
